St. Benedict/St. Mary Partnership

Joint Project to Feed the Hungry

This ministry is two fold.  It includes a monthly community meal at St. Benedict’s (2207 Third Street SE, Canton), where about 70 meals are served each month. It also involves a monthly food pantry distribution at St. Mary’s (1602 Market Avenue South, Canton), where approximately 60 families are served each month.  St. Michael Parishioners have several ways to participate in this worthwhile cause:

  • Set-up, serve, and clean up at the Community Meal provided the on the last Saturday of the month, from 10:30 AM – 12:00 noon.  Please see the volunteer information sheet for times and additional details.

  • Purchasing, transporting, and packaging paper and laundry products for the monthly food pantry held the second Saturday of the month, from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM.  St. Michael's provides non-food items that cannot be purchased with food stamps, including bathroom tissue, dishwashing and laundry detergent, paper towels, and tissues.  Parishioners can also donate personal care items to be distributed to the families.

  • Monetary donations to support both the pantry and community meal can be made at any time by enclosing a check or cash in an envelope marked “Social Concerns pantry and meal”, and dropping it in the collection basket, or mailing it to St. Michael Rectory.

Please see the Social Concerns information on the kiosk in the gathering space for additional information, including volunteer information sheets and donation envelopes, or call (330) 492-3119 and leave a message on extension 19 for a return phone call.
