"ISSUES AND ANSWERS"
The Fr. Brad Helman Library has DVDs of each of the sessions. If you missed one, borrow it at the lower level of the Church.
The fifth session was held March 25, 2009 and centered on explaining and commenting on Vatican II
The fourth session was held September 16, 2008. Fr. Brad and Fr. Matthew answered questions about 1) Pope Benedict XVI's encyclical, Spes Salvi (In Hope We Are Saved), 2) the coming changes in the words used in the Ordinary of the Mass, 3) the placement of the tabernacle in Catholic churches, and The Year of St. Paul and Its Indulgences.
On April 22, 2008, the third session, Fr. Brad thoroughly addressed a question on the Annulment Process and answered parishioners' questions regarding matters of liturgical interest. Fr. Matthew gave the Church's teaching on Instrinsically Evil Acts and Moral Issues and the Church's teaching on War.
On January 8, 2008, Mark Fuller joined the priests for the second presentation. He is a candidate for the Permanent Dioconate here at St. Michael's. The topics were: The Last Things-Heaven, Hell and Purgatory; Indulgences; Changes in liturgical practices; the role of Permanent Deacons; Celibacy issues for clergy.
The first session was on Monday, November 5, 2007, at 7:00 PM. Fr. Lew Gaetano, chaplain at Walsh University, joined Fr. Brad and Fr. Matthew to present the Catholic Church's stance on some current issues: Mother Teresa's "Dark Night of the Soul"; the Doctrine on the Church; The "Latin" Mass; Treatment of Patients in a Persistent Vegitative State. The presentations were excellent and questions about these issues were taken from the floor.

The Rev. Brad Helman Library
Please take a look at the library on the lower level, near the Chapel.
After the 12:15PM mass on August 12, 2007, Father Brad Helman officially opened and blessed the Parish Library, our newest parish resource. After the blessing, the library was dedicated to Father Brad in thanks for his being our pastor for twelve wonderful years and also to celebrate his 65th birthday. The adult faith formation committee presented Father Brad with a plaque to be displayed in the library and a beautiful portrait of him which will accompany the plaque. He also was presented a book of his reflections on the Sunday readings of the "A" and "B" cycles that were first published in "The Catholic Exponent." The library is beautiful because of its finely-crafted shelves built by parishioners which are full of inspirational and current topics as well as historic and timeless items of interest. There are books, DVDs, CDs, VHS and Audio Tapes for adults, teens, and children. Current catholic periodicals and pamphlets are also displayed. These items have been in most part donated by parishioners and parish staff, and we thank them for their generosity. Many folks have donated their time and effort to make a dream come true.
Please stop by the Rev. Brad Helman Library on the lower level near the elevator. You will be delighted with the quality and diversity of the holdings. All items, except reference works, are available for borrowing on the honor system.
Are you interested in helping to take care of the new library by taking an hour a week for one month during the year? We are looking for folks to check the shelves for misplaced items, card books, lightly dust the shelves when necessary, keep in touch with Norma concerning any issues, etc. Ideally, we will have 12 persons (who could bring a friend of his/her choice) who would take these responsibilities for one month starting after the dedication of the new library. Please call Norma or Pete at 330-477-9650 if you are interested.
We're in need of Catholic children's books and other media (VHS tapes, DVDs, CDs.) Look around your own bookshelves to see if there are some children's items you would like to donate for parish use.
Thanks to many generous folks, the LIbrary is now stocked with more than 2,000 books, pamphlets, VHS tapes and DVDs of past Lenten Series and mission talks--all available for parishioners to borrow on the honor system. Come to the lower level near the Chapel and take a look, browse, and borrow. The holdings are color-coded and include topics such as Catholic spirituality, the Catholic Church, prayer, the saints, and other subjects appropriate for a Catholic church library.
The library now has a fabulous reference set of The New Catholic Encyclopedia, discarded from the Jackson Branch of Stark County Library. Thanks to a parishioner who knew what an asset this reference set would be, it is now on the shelves, available for everyone's use. We are blessed!
We will be happy to review any donated books or media, catalog, then place them on the shelves to be lent to our parishioners. Please leave the items in the collection box provided in the library. The library committee will decide what items are appropriate. Please limit the type of items to categories such as: Spirituality, Prayer, Saints, Mary, Social Justice, Bible Study,Children's Catholic books and media, Liturgy, Vocations, Death/Dying from a Catholic perspective. Please call Norma Kopko, 330-477-9650 or email pkngk@sssnet.com for more information.
