March for Life
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On the 21st and 22nd of January, 39 members of Saint Michael’s and some surrounding parishes travelled by bus to Washington, DC, for the March for Life. The event marks the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion in all 9 months of pregnancy nation-wide. As people of faith, we recognize the intrinsic evil of abortion, and the need to pray and work to defend the sanctity of human life from natural conception until natural death.
Our group of pilgrims was among the 8,000 people who attended the Vigil Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Monday night, and among the 25,000 – mostly young people – who attended the Youth Mass at the Verizon Center Tuesday morning.
200,000 Americans of all faiths turned out for the March itself on Tuesday afternoon. We walked down Constitution Avenue in the nation’s capital, from the Mall to the Supreme Court building. The numbers of marchers increases significantly each year, a sure sign that, more and more, Americans do not support Roe v. Wade.
Thanks to Debby Bentivegna for organizing the trip, and to all who came with us. The whole experience of prayer and singing together on the bus, the Masses, the March, and our fellowship, was enriching for all.
May we all continue to pray that one day we shall see an end to all attacks against innocent human life.
May God bless you and keep you always in His loving care!
--Father Matthew
