Dr. J. Michael McMahan, President of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, once wrote, “The song of liturgy is a rehearsal if you will, for the song of life. At the liturgy we hear God’s song: God’s song forms us into a people.”  Music Ministry is a way to serve God and God’s children (the parish).  Taking part in Music Ministry is a wonderful opportunity to live our Parish vision resulting in the spiritual growth and unity of our Parish!   There are several opportunities to offer your time and talent with our Parish:  

“The Archangel Choir”– is for adults and high school-aged students who love to sing.  Rehearsals are every Wednesday from 7:00PM-9:00PM in the Church.  The Choir sings at the 9am and 11am Sunday Mass.  We are of varying ages and musical abilities. As long as you love to sing, you are welcome here.  We laugh together, we pray together, and we sing together.  Mrs. Libby Saxton is the Choir Director and accompanist.  New members are always welcome!  CHOIR STARTS BACK UP ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2011! “Bell Choir”- rehearsals are held weekly on Wednesdays in Church from 5:30PM - 6:30PM.  Being part of a bell choir is different from a singing choir.  It requires a little bit of technique but is fairly easy to learn if you’re interested.  CHOIR STARTS BACK UP ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2011! “Cantors”– are both singers and leaders of congregational song.   Cantors are required to practice on their own as well as schedule individual practices with the accompanist as needed.  Cantors are needed for Sunday Masses as well as Holy Days, Weddings, and Funerals.  CANTOR MEETING FOR THE FALL IS AUGUST 31, 2011. “Parish Children’s Choir”- open to all children of St. Michael’s Parish in grades 3 thru 8.  Practices are Monday evenings 7:00pm to 8:15pm in the lower chapel. We practice twice before we sing at a Sunday 9:00am Mass once a month. For specific dates or to volunteer to help with this choir, contact Libby Saxton in the parish office. FIRST CHOIR PRACTICE IS SEPTEMBER 19, 2011!                  

“The Ensemble”– is a group of instrumentalists and singers that come together to provide music for the 4:00pm Mass on Saturdays.  Rehearsals are held in the Church every Thursday from 7:00PM-8:30PM.  Contact Jeff Fricker at 330/492-3119 ext. 14 or Jeff@StMichaelCanton.org for information.
