About Us
Mission: Members work for compassion, justice, reconciliation and peace within the small community, in the family, parish, workplace, neighborhood and wider society.
The objective of Small Christian Communities is to strengthen one’s faith. A bonus is the wonderful companionship of members who become friends.
What is Small Community?
8-12 people who come together once a week or every other week in people’s homes for about 1-1/2 hours in order to:
To be community, five key elements need to be present:
Prayer: Emphasizes the centrality of God’s presence and power in the life of each person and within the small community.
Sharing: Members talk freely about God and about life experiences, reflecting on these in light of scripture and tradition.
Learning: Members gain an ever fuller knowledge and understanding of the gospel, the church and its teaching on faith and morals and the relationship of that teaching to the circumstances of life.
Mutual Support: Fidelity to the gospel is encouraged and members are challenged to support one another in their everyday lives. Numerous small Christian communities are active at St. Michael’s. They are composed of parishioners who meet on various days of the week and at variety of times. Some communities meet at members’ homes. Some meet at the church. The group leader may ask other members to take turns preparing the meeting. Often outside resources and materials are used, other times the upcoming Sunday scriptures are read and discussed.
