Advent Opportunities for Prayer and Giving

The Giving Tree

Names and needs have been gathered by our wonderful committee. Families Growing Faith have made the ornament tags and our school children blessed the trees at Mass on November 17th.
Please take a tag or two and return your wrapped gifts on or before December 12th by 5:30PM Mass. Thank you for your generosity as you help to make Christmas more joyous for many in our community.

Lighting the Advent Wreath

Advent is a special season of preparation in anticipation of Christmas. While the world outside seems hectic, this time offers us a chance to pause, reflect and wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Lord. We’re offering a special opportunity for the children of our parish to participate in our weekend liturgies at St. Michael’s this Advent.

For each weekend Mass during each of the four Sundays of Advent, we’d like a child (or several children from the same family) to process in with the priest and help to light the candles on the Advent wreath in the front of the church. The priest will assist small children. This is an excellent way for your children to play a special role in the life of the liturgy as we prepare to meet Jesus at Christmas.

Church Statements on Vaccines

Father Benson joins the bishops in encouraging vaccinations at this important time. U.S. Bishops write that receiving vaccines “ought to be understood as an act of charity toward the other members of our community.”

Because of the ways in which the vaccines were developed, and with the aim of forming our consciences and culture to promote respect for human life, the bishops ask us to receive the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines if we are given the opportunity to choose a vaccine. But recognizing that often individuals do not have a choice of which vaccine to receive, Bishop Kevin Rhoades, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Doctrine, notes that, "the Vatican has made it clear that all the COVID vaccines recognized as clinically safe and effective can be used in good conscience."

Thank you for being vaccinated, as a way of protecting yourself and your family, and also the most vulnerable during this time of worldwide suffering.
