PASTORAL LETTER: TESTIFY TO THE LIGHT

ON THE EUCHARIST (JULY 9)

Bishop Bonnar's Pastoral Letter, Testify to the Light, offers hope as we emerge from the pandemic, and suggests an exciting path forward for our diocesan Church.

His most recent letter, on the Eucharist, offers an opportunity for reflection on the Eucharist in light of the upcoming Eucharistic Revival Project and a refocus after current media attention on the Eucharist and Public Life. Like Bishop Bonnar's pastoral letter, it reflects his episcopal motto, "That All May Be One."

MOST RECENT MUSICAL MEDITATION

Alive and Breathing

This is the last of our virtual choir projects for the 2020-2021 Choir season. This stunning song was written by contemporary Christian artist, Matt Maher and has a characteristic driving drum beat. Our Pastoral Musician and Coordinator of Social Justice Ministries, Jeff Fricker created this beautiful accompaniment, which our choir members used to practice and record.

Music is recorded and printed under podcasting/video streaming license provided by onelicense.net license # A-724239, CCLI copyright license # 11028324 and CCLI streaming license # 20790229. All rights reserved.

Church Statements on Vaccines

Father Benson joins the bishops in encouraging vaccinations at this important time. U.S. Bishops write that receiving vaccines “ought to be understood as an act of charity toward the other members of our community.”

Because of the ways in which the vaccines were developed, and with the aim of forming our consciences and culture to promote respect for human life, the bishops ask us to receive the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines if we are given the opportunity to choose a vaccine. But recognizing that often individuals do not have a choice of which vaccine to receive, Bishop Kevin Rhoades, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Doctrine, notes that, "the Vatican has made it clear that all the COVID vaccines recognized as clinically safe and effective can be used in good conscience."

Thank you for being vaccinated, as a way of protecting yourself and your family, and also the most vulnerable during this time of worldwide suffering.

Bishop's Appeal and Bishop Bonnar's First Pastoral Letter

Two-thirds of this appeal goes to the work of Catholic Charities, and the remainder supports diocesan ministries that our parish relies on. With the pandemic these ministries have become even more critical, and especially the needs of Catholic Charities, which is serving more and more people.

Considering this great need, the diocese has set an ambitious goal of $4 million, and our parish goal is $195,800. Our parish has been a leader in this campaign in the past, and we are asked to lead again this year. As of July 9th, St. Michael's parishioners have committed over $180,000, 92% of our parish goal. We are now first in the diocese in total dollars committed.  You can still donate online below.
Thank you for supporting Catholic Charities and our Diocese.

DONATE TO BISHOP'S APPEAL

Bishop David Bonnar has also released his first pastoral letter,Testify to the Light.  In it, Bishop Bonnar offers encouragement to the diocesan Church during this pandemic, invites us to make prayer a priority, and suggests an exciting path forward for our diocesan Church.
