Social Justice Ministries

Embracing a Gospel Vision for Vital Parish Life

Service opportunities are plentiful and include outreach in: Food, Shelter, Clothing, and Advocacy.

Please join the journey!

Together as a parish we encounter Jesus with our neighbors through local, regional and global outreach.

Mission and Vision:

Walking in the Footsteps of Christ we are called to share our gifts as a way of life by providing service to those in need, advocating for justice in social structures and connecting faith with action through local, regional and global outreach ministry.

Volunteer Opportunites:

Catholic Charities Serving Portage and Stark Counties has need of volunteers at the downtown Canton office. Volunteers may assist with the food pantry (stocking shelves, assisting clients) or with the clothing "store" wehre clients may "shop" for children's clothing. if you are interested in volunteering call Catholic Charities at: 330-491-0896.

Refuge of Hope

This downtown ministry serves people who are homeless by means of a men’s shelter (and soon to be women’s shelter),

“free store”, and a meal program. To volunteer please email: volunteer@refugeofhope.org or call: 330-453-1785 (Lucia McLaughlin).

Habitat for Humanity

Joining with other parishes in Stark County,

we participate in semi-annual or annual Habitat Catholic

Builds, constructing homes for people in need of stable, affordable housing. The Habitat process is known for its excellence around the world as homeowners earn (through study, sweat equity, and proven financial stability)

the opportunity to build and purchase their own homes. Check the bulletin for news about upcoming build opportunities. No experience in construction is needed. Trained builders work alongside volunteers, providing instruction and assistance.

    St. Michael Food Outreach

Participate in this ministry by donating items noted in the weekly bulletin or by means of the Hunger Awareness envelope.

If you would like to help sort, pack, and deliver items to the agencies we support, call or email Sister Carolyn: srcarolyn@stmichaelcanton.org ; 330-492-3119 ext. 215

St. Michael Giving Tree Outreach (Christmas)
